An RBE Village Coop, is a self governing Cooperative Village that uses the principles of Resource-Based Economics.
This type of cooperative is formed by a group of individuals who come
together to create a self-sustaining community that functions without
relying on traditional forms of currency or profit-driven systems.
Instead, the focus is on efficiently and sustainably utilizing resources
using technological advances to meet the needs of all members of the
community and bringing the benefits (wealth and productivity) of that to
the Village itself and all its owners, the Village Members.
In an RBE Village Coop, resources are allocated based on the needs and priorities of its members. This means that instead of prioritizing profits or individual gain, the cooperative aims to ensure that everyone's needs are met in a fair and equitable manner. This approach promotes a sense of collective responsibility and cooperation within the community. Done well, the community builds significant shared wealth over time.
The concept of an RBE Village Coop encompasses various aspects of community living. For example, it has
shared ownership of land and resources, where members collectively
manage and utilize these assets for the benefit of all. Decision-making
processes within the cooperative are carried out through collective
participation, ensuring that everyone has a voice in shaping the
direction of the community. In coops every vested member has one
ownership share and one vote.
Technology is used to remove the drudgery from work through automating repetitive and routine activities. This allows the Villagers to focus on the more fun creative aspects of creating what they want and need. People propose to the group for acceptance what they will do for each season. They get to choose what they do. If some activities go not selected by anyone, the work is given to outside hires.
Money is only used in dealing with the outside world, other jurisdictions. Within the village,
money is not needed. People's needs are met by the village itself. The
villagers are basically building a community business together that is
effective in taking care of them all. Clearly, membership is selective
based on skills and abilities.
Sustainability is a key principle of an RBE Village Coop. The cooperative strives to implement practices that minimize negative impacts on the environment and promote long-term ecological balance. This may include adopting sustainable agricultural methods like permaculture, utilizing renewable energy sources, and implementing waste reduction strategies. By incorporating these practices, the cooperative aims to create a harmonious living environment that meets the needs of its members while preserving and protecting the natural environment around them.
An
RBE Village Coop represents a grassroots effort to build a more
sustainable and equitable micro-society. By reimagining economic systems
and focusing on responsible resource use, these cooperatives strive to
create communities where everyone's needs are met, and the well-being of
both people and the planet are prioritized.
