Principles and Values
These are the Principles and Values that all member communities embrace as the basic of our community governance and operations with the Rbe villages Trust.
Close to Nature – Based on Love
Key Values
-
We live simply and share with each other.
-
We take only what we need, and give back more.
-
We respect all living things including Mother Earth. All people are valued and respected.
-
We seek to live lives of in service to others.
Supporting Principles
-
We stand with each other in adversity, and support each other no matter the need.
-
We value all people for the gifts they have. We do our part in caring for those who are less capable or have limitations.
-
We celebrate and respect all life as special and inter-connected.
-
We use our resources and wealth to help others build their communities.
- We believe in the notion of commons. It is not legal with us to make a profit from something needed to live such as healthcare, essential foods, utilities, etc.
-
We pool our resources as a community sharing expenses, particularly for vehicles, equipment, tools, food, housing, etc. Profit is made from optional spending.
-
We live in small residences for private space and a community center for shared functions and group needs, such as major meals, hot tubs, laundry, and gatherings. Private spaces may be very individual in design and décor. Standards set by each village community.
-
We take meals together in our community center dining hall. We collectively raise most of our food, and buy the rest.
-
All active members receive a monthly stipend, when possible, for personal expenses beyond those born by the community itself.
-
We acknowledge we are spiritual beings and each person’s beliefs and practices are unique to them. We have no religion, per se, and block none unless it impinges on others.
-
Work is shared. There are no real jobs, but we may take on various expert, manager, and leader roles as needed. The goal is to have fun in all we do.
-
We are lifelong learners.We share our knowledge and skills with each other to help us all grow.
-
We strive to become as independent and sustainable as we can be by:
-
-
Minimal impact on the land;
-
Few permanent immovable structures, carefully decided;
-
We use renewable energy: geothermal, solar, wind, small nuclear;
-
We use natural and reusable building materials wherever practical.
-
We minimize waste – up-cycling, composting, etc.
-
-
We are open to people joining us if they share these values, when we agree that they are a good addition to our community.
-
We seed other new communities with leaders and managers from existing members with a desire to grow and move. We grow by need and desire of our members, not as a goal. Growth is a consequence mostly of new members and additional lands.
-
We have guest quarters for visitors from other locations and villages. We are a very welcoming community. We are all free to move and stay in our different communities, and are expected to do so routinely, helping out wherever we go. We plan collaboratively across villages to be sure no community is left short staffed.
-
We place a high value on natural healing modalities, and our food is of the highest quality, from heritage seeds and free range animals. We recognize that food is the primary key to health and healing.
